Alternating boards, spaced slats or open metal can reduce pressure, but the amount and direction of airflow depend on the pattern. Do not assume a decorative gap makes a weak structure wind-rated.
Strengthen the whole load path
Panels transfer force to rails, posts and foundations. Gate posts and end posts may need more support than line posts. Connections should be compatible with the material.
Use local design information
High-wind and exposed coastal areas may require engineered details, shorter spans or different materials. Local wind criteria and manufacturer limitations take priority over generic post spacing.

The useful question is not whether wind-resistant fence design is important; it is how the issue changes this property.
